What area of this standard do you need help with?

Kia ora all

I look forward to answering any questions relating to this standard. If you are stuck on a question feel free to post it here and I will do my best to help

I am usure as to how I am supposed to make an solve an equation where the variable is the exponent

@Sarah.Roycroft I answered this question in another discussion 2019 Algebra Paper - Mathematics Level 2 / 2.6 Algebra - Studyit

Basically that is what logarithms are for. If you have any questions, please let us know.

how do I use logs in a standard equation for example:

How would I solve these?

(i) First, we substitute 11 to D:

then, we divide both sides of the equation by 1000:
image
after that we will take an 11th root of both sides of the equation and re-arrange equation to solve it for R:

(ii) In this question we need to make the D subject of the equation. First, we can divide both sides of the equation by 1000:
image
Next, we can take logarithms of both sides of the equation:
image
Then, we will apply formula of logarithm of the exponent:
image
and finally, will divide both sides of the equation by log(1+R/100):
image

(iii) we know that:

If left sides of the equations are equal (both are D), then we know that the right sides of the equations must be equal too:

Now, we can re-arrange equation by cross-multiplication:

Remove logarithms:

and the final re-arrangement:
