Similar triangles - Related rates

Hi,
I just want to clear a doubt I have. Can we use similar triangles formula on non right angled triangles as well or does it only apply to right angled triangles?

There was a question with a square based pyramid, and it was a related rates question about the rate of change of volume of water in the pryamid and water depth in it.

The triangle on the pyramid is not a right angled triangle. So I was wondering whether I can use the similar triangle formula to equate the height & base of the pyramid?

Thank you so much in advance!!

Hi, @Faadhilah. You are on the right track. In order to be similar, triangles don’t necessary have to be right angled triangles. If all angles of one triangle equal to all angles of another triangle it means they are similar triangles and their sides are proportional.
