The Truman Show - Peter Weir.

The Truman Show by Peter Weir, starring (Jim carry) is about a man named Truman who has been the star of a reality t.v show since birth without even knowing it. T. lives in a town called Seahaven (the best place on earth)He has been invaded of privacy his entire life. “The Truman Show” is more relevant than ever as it predicted the rise of “reality” TV and society under tremendous surveillance. Our modern world is filled with examples of surveillance and it is fair to say that our privacy has become under threat because of this.

It all started with a man named Christoph the creator of the ‘Truman Show, The only real thing in his life is Truman himself. His mother, father, wife, friends, and anyone else he has ever come across are all actors in the show and he is the main character who is being filmed/watched in everything he does by people all around the world.

Truman’s place of work; sells insurance - he is given a professional job so that he is aware of all the potential dangers and more likely to be afraid and easier to manipulate he begins to want to travel which isn’t good for the show because they have done a bunch of things to make him afraid to travel, the fear of water, for example, they do a high angle shot of a boat submerged in water that Truman came across they have told him Seahaven is the best place and basically there is no need to leave as well as putting unrealistic pictures of planes. (Low angle shot of a travel poster - the plane struck by lighting and someone saying ‘ it could happen to you’.)

At the start of the film, Truman is very childlike as in playing games in his bathroom mirror the creators made him like this on purpose so that he is easily controlled over and actually doesn’t know what’s really going on even tho he has some responsibilities of a normal adult he still is treated like a child especially by his wife.

Meryl, his wife holds back Truman and stops him from dreaming big or trying to pursue his dreams (the theme of social control) Meryl says “you want to be a explore” the tone that she speaks to him is like an adult talking to a small, slow willed child. He then starts to see stuff going on that isn’t quite right and starts to realize that every day the same thing happens almost like there on repeat such as actors on loop methods, block him from driving off Seahaven island with a traffic jam, fear of crossing the bridge, forest fire, nuclear power plant leak, Everyone lies to Truman he is treated like a child but it is forgotten that he is an adult and can figure things out.

Truman overcomes his fear and hops on a boat and starts sailing while the t.v show thinks he’s just sleeping until Christoph sends in Truman’s best friend (Marlon) to check up on him to find he has escaped the cameras watch. Christoph uses the power of the dome to stop him from leaving (they use a midshot of Truman on a sailboat) making it day time/using the moon as a flashlight and uses effects to make it hard and scary for Truman to cross the ocean Christoph is like a power greek god., The true-bar has a beat on weather t. Will make it across or not. Christoph says that is our hero shot and also says “give me some more lighting hit him again” this shows that Truman is not seen as a real person he is seen as a character to them.

Sad as it is Christoph seems like he is willing to kill Truman from stopping him leaving he is like a childish god who demands his own way no matter the consequences. C starts talking through the dome to t. Explaining the show and how Christoph is his creator and how nothing is this good out there but Truman is still determined to leave even if he dies in the attempt t says “is that the best you can do “your gonna have to kill me.” Full shot: Truman walking on water to the walkway. He finally knows the truth of his world. He then asks “was nothing real” he’s aware of how fake his life was.

In conclusion, the Truman show contains relevant messages for the feature, and even now on how easy your privacy can be taken from you without even realizing, Truman has dealt with social control and invasion of privacy to the extreme to end it of in case I don’t see you again good afternoon good evening and good night.

You haven’t included a question so I am not sure what you are looking at; but it looks like Describing a main idea and then explaining how it was relevant to a modern world?
You set up the essay sensibly and mention both the main idea and the relevance in the opening statements which is good. Then you provide a series of examples from the film to show particular ideas and mention film techniques. It would be good to try and tie the techniques into the ideas a little more clearly. Eg the high angle shot of the boat submerged creates a sense of out of body experience which suggests the deaths of the people onboard and the danger.
The idea you set up is the invasion of privacy and while you come back to it at the end it would be good to keep it at the forefront of the discussion throughout the essay. Eg At the start of the film, Truman is very childlike as in playing games in his bathroom mirror the creators made him like this on purpose so that he is easily controlled over and actually doesn’t know what’s really going on even tho he has some responsibilities of a normal adult he still is treated like a child especially by his wife. One of the consequences of having his privacy invaded was that he could be controlled by others and this is a danger faced by the modern world. If our data for example is taken without our knowledge and used by others we could be controlled negatively.
A sound essay. Have another go at another question.:raised_hands:
